Who is Mete Gazoz?
Born on June 8, 1999 in Istanbul, Mete Gazoz is a successful national athlete who started his international archery career in 2010. Gazoz's mother is Meral Gazoz, the president of the Istanbul Archery Club, and his father is Metin Gazoz, a former national archer. The athlete, who completed his primary, secondary and high school education at İhlas College, received training in many different fields to improve his archery skills. The athlete, who is interested in areas such as basketball, painting, swimming and piano, has improved his skills and success in archery.
The national athlete's first international success came in 2013 at the World Youth Archery Championships in China. In the championship, he won the silver medal in the stars category with the men's classical bow team. Afterwards, he represented Turkey at the 2015 European Games in Baku and finished 46th with 641 points. Unfortunately, he lost to his Ukrainian opponent in the first round and was eliminated as a result.
2016 European Archery Championships (Nottingham), who won the silver medal in the individual category, participated in the 2016 Summer Olympics at the age of 17 and became the youngest athlete in the Turkish team. Adding a new one to her achievements every year, the young athlete ranked third in the world in the mixed team classical bow category at the 2017 World Junior Archery Championships held in Argentina, together with Yasemin Ecem Anagöz.
The national athlete, who won the gold medal at the 2018 Mediterranean Games held in Spain, managed to attract all the attention by winning 4 gold medals in the 4th leg of the World Cup held in Berlin, Germany in the same year. So much so that he was selected as the best athlete of 2018 in the men's classical bow in the survey conducted by the World Archery Federation; he was declared the best debut athlete of the year by the jury.
Mete Gazoz, who runs from success to success, was not limited to these, but also came first with 698 points in the European Grand Prix 2019 races held in Bucharest, the capital of Romania, and thanks to this score, he became the holder of the Junior World and Senior European Record. Mete was selected to the "30 under 30" youth club as part of the "30 under 30" program organized by Forbes Magazine for Turkey in 2019, and continued to make our country proud.
Together with Yasemin Ecem Anagöz, she came 4th in the mixed team category at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games, losing 6-2 to Mexico in the bronze medal match. Finally, at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he became the Olympic champion by defeating Mauro Nespoli 6 - 4 in the final in the individual classical bow field and achieved a first in the history of Turkish archery.

Mete Gazoz competed in the first round of the 2010 Tokyo Olympic Games on Thursday, July 29 at the Ymenoshima Archery Range against Jeff Henckels of Luxembourg and defeated his opponent to advance to the second round. In the second round, he was paired with Australian national Ryan Tyack, and he was again victorious and advanced to the last 16 round. Continuing to compete consistently, the young athlete defeated Taylor Worth, also an Australian archer, in the last 16 round and qualified to compete in the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals, he defeated Brady Ellison, the US archer ranked No. 1 in the world rankings, and made it to the semifinals with golden letters. In the semifinals, the young athlete, who managed to eliminate Japanese archer Takaharu Furukawa, became a finalist and played the gold medal match with Italian Mauro Nespoli. Mete Gazoz, who faced Italian archer Mauro Nespoli in the final match, won the competition 6 - 4 and won the gold medal and became the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Champion.
